Book review -- Five point someone:Chetan Bhagat

Please let me start this piece by telling you what this book is not:First of all,this one is definitely not sleaze,and not one of those boy-behind-girl type of thing.
"IT S ABOUT THE MOST SPECIAL THING CALLED FRIENDSHIP",the wonder that keeps you and me and the whole world going.If u respect friendship,u should definitely read this book.If there was one book i just could n t wait to lay my hands on,it is this.When i went to get this book from HIGGIN BOTHAMS with my friend,the stocks were out and i had to wait for two loooooooong days to get a copy.

Well,the book starts with a ragging scene at the hostel of the prestigious IIT,New Delhi:The style of narration of the events is nothing short of perfection.The way the author starts,a bulb glows in my mind."TRADE-MARK IITians".A typical classic IITian touch.

The story is some sort of a DIL CHAHTA HAI,but guys,hold on.There is no aamir khan here,and it s certainly not a triangular love story.I WAS JUST IMPRESSED.The media endorsed the book highly.TIME(Asia) magazine has featured this book in its August2,2004 issue,titled "Teenage Wasteland" with the caption "Can slackers succeed at India's élite universities? The first thing that comes to our minds when we think of IIT is GENIUS guys,with all their MEGA-BRAINS buried into their books,and minimum enjoyment possible.But here our heroes,after spending two full years of their life inside text books to get to IIT,decide they take a break.

Here,meet our three heroes(they r heroes in their own way).

1)HARI: The author of this(loook at his photo above).He s fond of FRIENDSHIP,admires RYAN for his "manly" and "heroic" acts when in trouble,even on the first day of college.Hari bumps into his GIRL,Neha,and begins to date her,who happens to be the HOD(Head of department)s daughter.(Wow,this is guts!!)

2)RYAN:The "come-what-may" kind of gutsy attitude,Killer looks girls will die for,ALL INDIA RANK 91,combination of BRAIN+BEAUTY,but then with 'cant tell outside' grades,and the LEADER OF THIS TRIO.

3)ALOK: Comes from a lower middle class family,if not poor,and the "MUG-IT-ALL" booksmart boy.Hard working with the burden of his family on his shoulders.

4)NEHA:The author has done this part exceedingly well.So i wont get into this..

When these great boys try to enjoy,"FIVE POINT SOMEONE" unfolds.It has addressed all the issues a teen may face and i liked all the elements portrayed vividly,particularly class-bunking,being true to FRIENDS,beating up the seniors(ha ha,there were some really bad guys in my college too)and so on.

The last few pages just took my breath away,such thrill u know.I could nt keep the book down.i wished i could go on.I can keep on talking about friendship and this book.But nope,that ll break the suspense.Then what happens to the lives of these guys?Have they messed up their lives???FIGURE OUT FOR YOURSELF.So,please all friends read this book aloud(Make sure ur parents are not around) and be WORLD CLASS FRIENDS.ALL THE BEST.
